CARNELIAN

GARNET

Birthstone for March, jade is the term applied to both jadeite and nephrite. However, distinctions between the two nearly identical looking gems are not easily made. The toughest gem known to man, jade is even tougher than steel! The Spanish named the gem "piedra de hijada", or stone of the loins. Beloved by the Chinese who treasured its vivid greens, lavenders, pinks, yellows and whites, they believed it to literally be the very essence of Heaven and Earth itself.  Signifies wealth and prosperity, protection and an all around powerful cure.  Jade in history was a very popular stone, for it was thought of not only as a good luck stone, but also one that aided health and prevented sickness.  Men are drawn to jade.

JASPER

An opaque variety of chalcedony, usually red, brown or yellow and colored by oxides of iron. Jasper is rarely uniform in color. It is usually multicolored, striped, or spotted and generally opaque in appearance. The name is said to come from the Greek word "iaspis" for jasper. Highly valued by shamen as a sacred and powerful stone of protection and grounding. Brings the energy of the sun to rejuvinate and strengthen the body. Helps tissue regeneration and smell.
